About the Role
This individual will be responsible for working with Sol Clarity’s tech leadership on the design, production, and commercialization of our novel product. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to produce prototypes, improve the electronic and mechanical design for manufacturability, and develop product improvements with the support of the rest of the technical team. Strong engineering background and previous experience building commercial hardware products from the ground up is preferred. Willingness and comfort to work in a seed-stage startup environment is a must. This is a full-time hybrid (remote & in-person) job.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with building in-house prototype electronics and remote field testing units, including PCB design and optimization, soldering, and working with outside vendors
Prototype and execute those designs via common techniques (soldering, 3D printing, laser cutting, basic microcontrollers)
Write basic code for automated data collection, storage, and derivations/analysis
Design to improve electrical-mechanical robustness of the technology through prototyping and testing
Demonstrate ability to work with your hands, manage power tools, etc.
Perform administrative and management roles necessary for R&D
Perform other related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
BS or MS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering, or similar
Electrical experience strongly preferred
1-5 years prior lab and/or machining experience
Self-starter, propensity to work with minimal directions
CAD (Solidworks, Onshape, Fusion) or Circuit Layout (Altium, Eagle, KiCAD) experience highly desirable
Experience with high-voltage/power electronics highly desirable
Preferred Technical Skills
Basic electrical engineering experience, wiring, soldering, circuit design including analog, digital, and power electronics
Familiarity with microcontrollers, ability to produce PCBs using: Altium or similar
Strong technical skills in engineering analysis and evaluation
Other Useful Technical Skills
Coding experience is a plus: Python, C++, RaspberryPi, etc.
Outdoor durability testing
Understanding of Solar panels, solar power systems, and concentrated solar power
Soft Skills
Experience working with small teams in a start-up or other highly adaptable environments
Highly organized with respect to technical records and documentation practice
Written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
